Arlington High School is exited to welcome Brenda Mattix onto our staff. Having 11 years of teacher under her belt, she is an outstanding science, physical science and STEM teacher. This will be her first year teaching high school! Brenda has high hopes for a great first year at AHS.

Mattix went to Freed-Hardeman to get her bachelors in science as well as University of Memphis for her masters degree in teaching. Before coming to AHS she was a teacher at Arlington Middle and Elmore park where she taught grades 6-8th. If Mrs. Mattix was not a teacher she says she would be working in a Hisotology Laboratory.

When asked what the most rewarding thing is about teaching, Brenda’s response was “knowing beyond a shadow of a   doubt the students learned the material and are able to explain it to anyone”. In my opinion this is the best way to check that you truly know the information. The worst part about teaching in Brenda’s opinion is seeing the students who are not necessarily “popular” or “socially accepted” walk around with no friends. She hates to see students spend 12 years in school being treated like they are invisible. “Breaks my heart”, says Brenda.

Mattix says she considers herself to be a good balance of both a strict and laidback teacher. She also says she enjoys the hybrid method over the busy Monday-Friday work day. She can’t wait to get to know all her students and have a great year!

Tigers make sure to say hi to our newest teacher here at AHS!
