Dr. Carren Marvin
Dr. Carren Marvin resembles passion more than you could ever imagine. In fact, it was because of her difficult life that she figured out the career she really wanted to pursue. She always knew in the back of her mind that she had a love for teaching, but it was one of her school counselors that made her realize her true passion and she became a school counselor.
Although she has finally achieved her dream job, it took a lot of time and hard work for her to get there. Dr. Marvin has been teaching for over 24 years. To get to where she is now she had to go through many years of school and obtain countless degrees. Dr. Marvin has been to a total of 5 different colleges: Lee University, Cumberland University, Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, and Freed-Hardeman University.
Because of Dr. Marvin’s previous work here in Arlington Community Schools, she was the right person for the position, but what exactly does the role of school counselor entail? Being the Kindergarten through second grade student counselor at Arlington Elementary, she focuses on doing individual and small group counseling for students in need. Main topics she focuses on are grief counseling, depression, overwhelming sadness, anxiety, anger management, and study skills. However, the most important thing to Dr. Marvin is that kids feel safe and loved.
While Dr. Marvin may be passionate about helping kids, she does have many other hobbies outside of school doors. In her free time, Dr. Marvin enjoys reading, writing, and scrap-booking. “I get up in the morning and read my Bible and pray, and then just sort of reflect on what the day is going to bring and make a to do list so that I stay focused.”0
