Shelby Buxton
Wearing an Earth Day shirt, and matching globe earrings, Shelby Buxton is the newest sixth grade Arlington Middle School STEM teacher. She constructs a problem solving space in her classroom where the students aren’t afraid to ask for help.
Shelby Buxton grew up in Bartlett, Tennessee. She studied at Murray State University and decided to start her teaching career off with a middle school education degree. Her hobbies are running and reading.
Ms. Buxton cares a lot about the world around us. Her toughest moments as a teacher is knowing that she can’t care for the student’s out-of-school problems. “That really is tough mentally, you know, knowing that I can’t fix all their problems I can only fix what I see and what I can fix during the school day.”
She wants to be the best teacher she can, “so if I want to be the best, I have to surround myself with the best.” The thing she enjoys the most about teaching are her kids, “regardless of whether or not I walk in with a bad attitude or what. My kids always know exactly how to make my day better.”
Ms. Buxton has a perfect personality for teaching. She cares deeply about her students and the world around us. This is her second year ever teaching.
Ms. Buxton loves the community here at Arlington, she thinks of it as a family all around, not just in school. “Arlington just seems like a community and a family all around not just at this building.”
