One of our film students from here at Arlington came from another school. She went to Hutchinson her eighth grade year and freshman year. This is where her film journey started. Ashtyn Gillespie is a junior now.
“I just needed an elective and I didn’t know what I really wanted to do,” says Ashtyn.
She loved being behind the camera, so she decided to take a class where this was available for her to continue doing. At Hutchinson Ashtyn didn’t find film to be that interesting, but when she came to Arlington her view completely changed.
Ashtyn said, “I feel like film is just something I fell in love with.”
At Arlington she has been able to make many projects and anchor on our This Is Arlington show. Now because of taking film classes at Arlington, Ashtyn feels like she will continue to incorporate what she has learned into her life outside of high school.
“I want film to definitely be plan B after high school. Practicing photography or anchoring on news station is something I want to do.”
Ashtyn plans to be a nurse full time, but because of film she has many advantages compared to other nursing students. She wants to vlog her journey as a student, take photos for people, and work at a news station on the side. She has bright plans for her future and because of film she knows how to achieve her dreams.
