A medical jet crashed in Northeast Philadelphia this past Friday, January 31, tragically killing seven citizens and injuring many others. The victims were identified by the Mexico-based company which was operating the small plane, a Learjet 55 aircraft.

Everyone onboard the jet, all of whom were Mexican citizens, did not survive. An additional person inside a vehicle at the time was killed on the ground.

24 other people are known to be injured. Four of them remain hospitalized, two in critical condition.

Arlington High School student, Elon Noe, feels sad about the death of everyone on board the plane.

He feels sentimental about the crash as he says, “If this happened here in Arlington, I’d be heartbroken and want to help the people affected in any way I could.”

This medical jet was transporting six people including a pediatric patient who had recently finished receiving medical treatment at Shriners Children’s Hospital. The patient, 11 year old Valentina Guzmán Murillo, and her mother, Lizeth Murillo Osuna, were on their way home to Mexico after treatment was complete.

The plane plummeted within a minute of taking off from the Northeast Philadelphia Airport. Investigators are still determining the cause of the crash.

Debris from the crash exploded into a fireball, causing pieces of the plane to be blown into the residential and commercial Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood. This caused severe damage to many businesses and homes.

The damage from this crash has been extensive to the city of Philadelphia. Four homes have been destroyed, six more with major damage, and 11 with other damage to them. City officials told Action News, “343 homes were impacted in some way.”
