In the year 496 AD, the holiday, Valentine’s Day, was created. The holiday started as a Christian feast day honoring a martyr named Valentine. Later on, it started becoming a significant cultural, religious, celebration of romance and love in regions of the world. Since then, it has continued to occur every year on February 14th.
This holiday is a know holiday to everyone. Every year, people go all out for this one day. This includes buying teddy bears, flowers, and chocolate for loved ones. Restaurants get booked out from people going on dates with friends, families, or their significant other. Although, some people hate this holiday. Campbell funk says, “I feel that this holiday is just pointless. People go crazy for this one day, when we are supposed to show our love for others everyday, not just one day. Every year, me and my boyfriend just treat it like a normal day and go to a classic dinner.” It has become very normal for many people to dislike this holiday. Part of some people’s reasoning is that, it has become a holiday only surrounded by your significant other and if you have a “valentine”. People tend to forget the whole idea of this holiday and how it’s not just about if you are in a relationship.
Valentine’s Day will go on for years and years to come. It is a holiday that is very liked and disliked. While people only see it has the holiday for love, it has true meaning behind it all.
