AHS Television Production

“It is one of my favorite classes. It completely stands out from the rest.”

Arlington High School is known for their engaging Media Arts classes. There are many classes to choose from in this department, with a range of skills needed for each class. One of the more advanced classes, Television Production, uses a state-of-the-art Television Studio and control room.

Crystal Coleman, senior at Arlington High School, previously transferred from East High School’s STEM program to be at Arlington High School in the Media Arts Program. “This class is amazing for teens that want to learn but have fun while doing it. I wish my old school offered classes like this.”

The Television Production class focusses on producing a “TV Show.” The class is provided with a set and control room. The students are completely in control of the things recorded and included in the show. They each have a job which can range from the director to a camera man. The class not only records, but edits all of the shots themselves. The class is extremely unique and requires effort from everyone to make the show look good.  This class also has small other little projects which include interviewing students or staff. The students get a topic and get freedom to produce what they want.
The teachers, Ms. Roberts and Mr. Ashbee, for the Media Arts classes are both educated on the subject and amazing mentors. They are both helpful and challenging. Both of these teachers push you to be the best you can and to produce the best work. They let students be creative and learn about their passion for these classes themselves. All students that have had them have loved them and talk very highly of them. These students are excited to come to class versus dreading it.
Arlington’s Media Arts class is so beneficial for students by giving them a unique experience and teaching them more ways to learn and use their education. The TV studio that Arlington provides for the students offers many different hobbies to learn and how real life shows and movies are broadcasted. Crystal mentioned how film made her high school experience fun, enjoyable, but also somewhat challenging. “Make sure that you are prepared to do the work and do it with effort. This class is entertaining, but it can be rigorous. It is better to turn in late work than low quality work.” Arlington welcomes new ways to learn by the Media Arts classes offered.
