Brooklyn Barber

Brooklyn Barber describes herself as a butterfly. She is always growing and learning to succeed through struggles in life, whether they are big or small.

Brooklyn is a native from Arlington, Tennessee and has been going to Arlington since the first grade.  She is a very hardworking student and always makes everyone smile. She has been taking film classes for a couple years, and she has grown to love it. She is now a senior and realizing her time is coming to an end saying, “It’s fun, but It’s sad that everything’s coming to an end, but it’s mostly fun because we’re the head of the school. People are nicer, and teachers are more understanding. Even though it’s sad I’m leaving high school, I’m happy with the times I had here.”

One of Brooklyn’s many goals is to find herself and who she is as a person. She did this through many CTE classes at school. “I did stem in my junior year, and I did HOSA my freshman year, and they’re different, but all fun.”

Although Brooklyn has enjoyed the courses she’s taken, she has never felt complete. She always craved more  and wanted to push herself to new heights. ” HOSA was an amazing experience to do, but it wasn’t for me. I liked everyone in the class, my teacher, and I had no problems at all with my grades, infact, I made amazing grades, but at the end of the day, it didn’t fit my personality.”

Moving from medical lessons in HOSA, Brooklyn decided to start a new journey and decided to take STEM, the next school year. ” I wanted to start something new, start new journeys in life and find a new route.” She entered STEM as a junior and started a brand new year. Although she started something new, just like the previous year, STEM didn’t work in her favor, so she stuck with a third option which was film.

“ It took lots of time to find a course I enjoy, but I’m so grateful I found it”

Taking a film class has taught her multiple things. “Film has taught me independence. It’s taught me how to stay on top of my works and it’s taught me the importance of being able to speak to people and talk to them without feeling awkward or weird around them.” Brooklyn explained what challenges she has faced while taking this class. “Just time management with the three days in a week, it’s kind of hard sometimes to remember where you last left off, and how to get back to your group that you were the day before.”

In the future, Brooklyn wants to be in real estate. She wants to be able to communicate with people and sell houses. ” I want to be a good broker and be able to communicate with them and just basically have good communication skills and talk to people easy.” She also believes film will help help in the long run. “ Editing projects is one thing, but the physical part of going out and talking to people you’ve never encountered is another. I love meeting new people and I’ve met so many people who became my friends through the class, in fact, film is beyond just a class.”

Currently, Brooklyn is happy with where she’s at in life and has finally found something that has fit her personality. She understands that in life there will be many challenges, but she is willing to take them head on to overcome them. She is extremely grateful for her friends, teachers, film course, and everything in between that makes her senior year special at AHS.
