New Businesses Coming to Arlington

The new construction at the corner of Airline and Milton Wilson is a major project bringing many businesses for arlington. Most people are excited to finally get some new businesses in arlington further eliminating the need to drive into Lakeland or Bartlett for everyday needs. While most consider the development a good thing, there are some concerns that have been brought up about the construction. Many fear that traffic will become a major issue as that is a heavily used intersection. Tonia Howell, chamber of commerce stated “we do traffic surveys before they every approve a new project and that the building have been designed in a way that does not effect traffic outside of the parking lot.” Many fear that with one of the businesses being a new Starbucks, many fear that its proximity to the highschool will cause major traffic issues, especially in the morning. There is worry about too much competition with local businesses. It’s no question that Starbucks is popular and for lovers of the local coffee shop Krave, many fear that Starbucks will steal some of their customers. Despite the anxiety people are remaining optimistic. Tonia stated that “the newness of the businesses may cause some issues but as long as the local ones continue to adapt than people will settle back into their routines and continue to shop at local businesses.” Some of the other business that have been announced will be very convenient for the community. With the opening of a new AT&T store, customers can now buy new phones easier than ever and without having to drive into Bartlett. The new chipotle and whataburger will allow for more fast food competition in arlington which will keep our current restaurants on track and high quality. While Bartlett is a not that far away there are many people that don’t want to drive 15 minutes for something as quick as a hamburger or a burrito and these business cut a 15 minute drive one way into 15 minutes for the whole trip. While slightly controversial, I believe that this project will be good or arlington and while the concerns are valid, they may not have near as much of an impact on everyday life as some fear. Tonia stated “by having more businesses in Arlington we can allow the taxes to come back to us and allow for more expansion and better maintenance for infrastructure in Arlington.” This project bring more convenience and ease of access for the Arlington community and may even bring more businesses into Arlington making us a more thriving community.
