For the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show, Grammy award winner, Kendrick Lamar, performed. His performance featured SZA, Serena Williams, and DJ Mustard.

On social Media and amongst viewers, there has been a debate on whether his performance was entertaining or boring. There has also been controversy over the performance as people have picked up on the “easter eggs” that Lamar included in his performance that were aimed at his disputes with Drake.

Lamar’s most recent Grammy-award winning song ‘Not Like Us’ is a diss track towards Drake. This song has blown up on social media over the past month, becoming one of Lamar’s current top hits. Throughout his performance, Lamar included dialogue to tease the song before he finally performed it to close out the show. While ‘Not Like Us’  is one of Lamar’s top hits, there’s controversy because of its meaning and accusations toward Drake. Viewers also have pointed out the estimated $1.2 Million dollar chain that Lamar was wearing. The chain featured a lower case “a” which fans believe is a nod to his famous line “A minor” in ‘Not Like Us.’ Additionally, shortly before this song was performed, the camera showed a glimpse of Serena Williams on a platform dancing to Lamar’s performance. This was significant to viewers due to the fact that Serena Williams is one of Drake’s ex’s.

Students at AHS share their opinions on the performance. Senior, Ella Parker, says “SZA was my favorite part for sure. Overall, I thought it was great and I loved the part where he dissed Drake.” On the other hand, Ella’s boyfriend’s grandma, Judy Watts, says “I wish there were captions because I couldn’t understand a dang thing.”

Overall, Lamar’s halftime performance was one to remember whether you thought it was boring, controversial, or entertaining.
