The Arlington Tiger’s Girls lacrosse team played its final game of the season Tuesday April 29th at 6 PM. The Tigers faced off against the Bartlett Panthers, hoping to get a win on senior night.
I got to talk with Senior Captain Briley Forehand before the game about the team, season, and what lacrosse means to her as she played her final game as a Tiger.
Forehand talked about being a senior on the team and the leadership she embraced as a captain on this year’s team.
“Its kind of bittersweet because its my last year and I’m a captain this year so it’s definitely been a big leadership role because we’ve had to step up a lot with having a new coach. But I think it’s helped us become more as a team.”
The Tiger’s captain looked forward to getting back out to play the sport she loved for one last season. She also goes through the trial that was having to sit out a full season, but goes into detail about how well her teammates have bonded with one another.
“It’s also bittersweet because we went from 7 girls to 24 in less than a year. And so having to sit out a year was really sad because I probably could’ve had 100 goals by now but I think it allowed a lot of us to grow and develop, just having that year off even though it wasnt meant to be a year off. I honestly think it was a blessing in disguise.”
“I think having the year off allowed us for more bonding experience and just coming back from not playing with everyone meeting new people and just coming together, we’ve really grown a lot since the beginning. At first, some of these girls had no idea what they were doing and now we have freshman scoring in games. So I think we’ve just come together well, and all the girls love each other. So it’s just been a really fun experience.”
Forehand reflected on this year’s team with recognizing some of her favorite teammates, and how she’s developed as a player going back to her Freshman year.
“I love all of my teammates, I love playing with Baylee Hudspeth because I feel like we connect really well scoring wise. Chloe Hall, she’s one of the best defenders we have. Savannah Reynolds is also a really great defender, Brooke Smith knows how to play every position, and Kallie Marsh is our goalie. I also love playing with some of the freshman like Morgan Rutherford, Lilly Snell, and Jade Bryant.”
“Going back to Freshman year I remember scoring my first ever game I played which was big for me because I didn’t know how to play at all, so I just threw it and expected it to miss but it went in. I think I’ll just remember growing, and really being open-minded to playing a new sport. And being where I am now, I’ve just really developed.”
Briley looked forward to the challenge against Bartlett for her final game as a Tiger.
“I really hope we beat Bartlett because that would be a great way to end our season, since it is our last game and our senior night. It’s our rival, every time we play them someone gets hurt.”
The Tigers unfortunately ended up losing the game by a score of 13-8 , but improved significantly as a team after being unable to play the 2024 season. Despite the loss to Bartlett, Briley Forehand went out on a good note, scoring 7 points.
