Loaded Teas: Are They Worth It?

Everywhere in the south, especially Arlington, TN residents are very fond of ‘Nutrition Teas’. These drinks are marketed as loaded teas that include caffeine, collagen, lift off, and various flavors; not even any actual tea!

Walking in the hallways of Arlington High School at 7a.m., you will most likely see at least 10 of these loaded teas before you even make it to your first period. Another common drink among teenagers are Alani Nu, Celcius, and Red Bull energy drinks. However, the draw to nutrition teas instead of energy drinks are the fun colors, sweet or sour flavors, and bigger portions.

AHS senior, Campbell Funk, loves these beverages so much that she actually got a job at Nutrition Spot in Lakeland, TN. Now she gets paid to make her favorite drink! As of today, April 17, 2025, Campbell has had 78 teas since the beginning of the year, January 1st. Another AHS senior, Ella Parker, previous had a job at a nutrition tea place, which started her obsession with these drinks. On average, she drinks about 3-4 teas per week. On the other hand, Breleigh Bunker, who is friends with both Ella and Campbell, does not like these drinks and never indulges in one.

In towns all across Memphis (Arlington, Lakeland, Bartlett, Collierville, and Germantown) there are many Nutrition “Spots” or “Stops.” Unfortunately, these loaded teas can get pretty expensive; these teas are sold anywhere from 6-12 dollars per tea, but that does not stop them from being bought day by day.
