The first day of freshman year, I remember being terrified. I was walking into a new school and meeting so many new people at this point. My first period was intro to film and video with Ms. Archibald. That day she took us on a tour of the media arts classes and newsroom. Walking in all I heard were people talking about their b-roll and the clicking of the computers being edited on. I saw all the camera equipment and the posters the went over the several types of shots. I was so confused and intimidated because I had known nothing. However, I was very curious and interested in the topic.
Ms. Archibald, throughout my freshman year, taught me all the basic and foundations of media arts. She taught me how to analyze movies as well as make my own. I had her for sophomore year as well and we built some highly creative storylines then turned those into movies. I learned how to edit in a way that allowed me to fully convey my story through the video footage.
Junior and senior year has been the biggest years for me in the media arts program. I have taken digital journalism with Mrs. Bateman both years. She has taught me so many things I did not know by taking a different approach to everything we do. Mrs. Bateman has been a teacher I have been able to confide in and someone who has taught me so much about digital journalism which has contributed to my knowledge which I am very thankful for.
As a senior, it is crazy to look back and see how far I have come in my skills and as a person. Media arts as taught me how to have a voice and put it out there for other people to hear. This class has also taught me how to intently listen to those around me just as I would want them to listen to what I say. It has taught me that creativity and truth are partners and not opposites. Media arts has given me the courage to really show my creativity through the diverse types of projects I have learned to do throughout my four years.
I am not the same person I was freshmen year. Now I am a creative storyteller all because of my four years throughout the media arts program.
