The Arlington High School girls lacrosse team is gearing up for a fresh start this season with new coaches and players ready to make an impact.
New assistant coach Caleb Hilliard brings both playing and coaching experience to the Tigers. Hilliard played men’s lacrosse at the Division II level at Tusculum College before continuing his career in Memphis.
“I have a lot of experience with the men’s game, and over the last few years, I’ve been a private coach working with various lacrosse players,” Hilliard said.
The team held its first practice Sept. 30 and will continue training every Tuesday and Friday, focusing on passing, hand-eye coordination, balance, and shooting drills.
“They’re still a few months away from the season opener, but with fall workouts underway, it’s definitely raising the level of excitement,” Hilliard said.
In the past two seasons, the Tigers have won only two games. However, Hilliard and head coach Tucker believe the focus on fundamentals this fall will set the tone for a turnaround.
“Right now in the fall we’re working on fundamentals — passing and catching — and I feel like if we get the basics down now and build on them in the spring, there’s no reason we can’t compete with any team in the city this season,” Hilliard said.
The team still has roster spots available for girls interested in joining. Coaches encourage students to come out, learn the game, and help elevate Arlington lacrosse to new heights.
The Tigers will officially begin their season in the coming Spring.
