Singing Christmas Tree is a joyful production which combines music, dance and worship to tell the wonderful story of Jesus Christ, creating a warm and welcoming beginning to the Christmas season. Students, cast and many more have been preparing since September to bring it all to life. Bellevue Baptist Church is singing Christmas Tree is a tradition dating back to 1976.
It has become a beloved event for families and the community to experience the hope of Christmas together.
“I’ve met a lot of great people here and they want to be friends, so I say it’s worth the ride and it’s really fun to announce we were rehearsing in,” Bellevue senior Caleb Fournier said. “We’re just having a good time.”
Singing Christmas Tree takes a lot of hard work to put together, and there are many hands that come together to create this production.
It’s more than just the students and cast. There are many people working behind the scenes. There’s backstage media crew, there’s costuming set designers, and there’s even more people that work to make it all happen.
“One of the biggest reasons, because I grew up doing it,” Backstage Coordinator Valerie Robbins said. “My parents worked backstage and my mom used to load the kids on the tree.”
“My dad was backstage and I was in it when I was a little kid. But now I love it because I get to work with the kids.” Valerie Robbins adds, “The kids are a part of it, and for me, it’s just as much a ministry to the students that are participating in the tree as it is to the people who are here to watch it.”
As the backstage coordinator, Valerie ties a lot of the significance of this tree into her own life. With a hope that this performance will make an impact and bring many more to those watching.
“And just my prayer is that, those who are watching it, even the participants, are just drawn closer to God. Bellevue’s mission with the singing Christmas Tree is to spread the good news of Jesus Christ through this presentation, hoping to reach both believers and nonbelievers.” Valerie Robbins closes, “I think history is a chance to take a break and really find hope and joy during this Christmas season.”
