Teachers have dream jobs too, and a new teacher at Arlington High School recently landed his. After 17 years of teaching at White Station and Bolton High Schools, Michael Catlin got the opportunity to work at AHS and teach STEM and Algebra II.
“I just loved being here, the atmosphere is way different than other schools… I finally arrived here after trying for 5 years to get on.”
Catlin, who first got the opportunity to teach at White Station 17 years ago, says he truly loves when a student finally understands what is being taught. “I love seeing a kid go ‘ahh, that’s it.’”
Catlin also teaches kids about more than just things relating to school. Catlin tries to teach kids about real-world situations. “I relate a lot of my math problems to real-world situations…students can go out and apply simple algebra techniques in banking or finance.”
Catlin has high praise for Arlington and the students here. After teaching at other schools Catlin says they can’t compare. “Arlington is head and shoulders above the rest.”
As for Catlin staying at Arlington, you won’t have to worry about him leaving anytime soon. “What’s there not to like here?”
