The Arlington High School Marching Band has a new face at the helm, and his name is Sam Schirmer.
As a graduate from University of Memphis, Mr. Schirmer is no stranger to reppin’ the Tigers. He also needs no welcoming to Arlington Community Schools, as he was a beloved Assistant Teacher at Arlington Elementary. He recently moved his talent and love for Instrumental Music to Arlington High School. “On top of assistant directing band, I lead the Orchestra and I also teach Advanced Placement Music Theory,” Schirmer says.
Schirmer has been working with the Marching Band since summer camps, and believes that with hard work and determination, the AHS Band will compete fiercely this season. To make sure Arlington Band stays on top, he gives the team key information months before competition time. Schirmer understands that with both schoolwork and extra-curriculars, being heavily involved has its challenges. “With three classes, time management is most important to me as it helps me stay on task.” But away from school, he does have breaks. In his free time, he enjoys tearing up the kitchen with his culinary skills. Other hobbies include playing with his dog, and making sure his wood-working skills are up to par.
