An upcoming event at Arlington High School showcases the journey Student Athletes must take to compete at the collegiate level.
Steve Smith, a representative from Mississippi state, will visit Arlington to give a presentation on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Smith is a member of Mississippi State’s Eligibility and Accountability Department, so he is well-versed in college programs’ eligibility and requirements.
Arlington High School’s Athletic Director and Varsity Volleyball Coach Rebekah Sanders, wants student athletes to begin thinking about their post-secondary dreams. “This meeting will help you understand just what you need to in order to get noticed by schools.” The meeting will cover the entire recruiting process and afterwards Smith will be answering any questions that students still have. Sanders is encouraging any student athlete to come out to the event because it will only last around two hours and could “change your approach to college athletics.”
Justin Donahue, a senior on the wrestling team at Arlington High, will be attending. “There is no reason not to go if you are an athlete,” he says. Donahue does not know for sure if he will be wrestling in college, but says that this event could help him decide on the matter.
The meeting will take place October 18th, and it will be held in the Arlington high school library at 6.
