The Memphis police have several specialized units. One of their specialized units is the K-9 unit. This unit is made up of several handler/dog partners who are trained in a range of different things, from narcotics detection, to bomb detection, or apprehension of suspects. When asked what his favorite thing about being on the unit was, Officer Patrick Jones said “I get to have a partner with me who doesn’t talk back, he is ready to go anywhere anytime. At home, he knows that he is one of our family members.” This unit is called in to assist other officers when there is a suspect who is on the loose, or when they need an area searched for drugs or bombs.
