Cooper-Young Porchfest

Cooper-Young+Porchfest

On Saturday, April 15, right down the street from the Memphis Zoo, the neighborhoods’ of Cooper-Young were truly alive. Porchfest is a annual event held in Memphis where locals of the neighborhood will volunteer their porches for bands to preform.

It’s important to me because it’s a fun, supportive, and welcoming environment that lets you showcase yourself and your work.

— Jonathan White

It’s a free event where people of all backgrounds can come and go while enjoying all sorts of live music. Some of the bands that preformed this year included: Money Piece, TwinSwamps, and The Kangaroos. Alongside this live music the Cooper-Young Community Association held their annual community yard sale to set the stage for the day of celebration.

It was great every year, but this year just felt super good. The thing I noticed when I was out is everybody was just happy to be out together.

— Amanda Yarbro-Dill

Over 100 bands preformed on 40 porches across the neighborhood during the 4 hour long event. Hundreds of festival goers showed up to the event and filled the neighborhood with their energy and support for the bands.

”To me, Porchfest is more than going to see live music, it’s about spreading love. I feel like I speak for most musicians when I say our goal is to inspire and move our audience and with the help of the Cooper-Young Community, we are able to express this passion to others.” -John Wise

Porchfest is set to happen once again in 2024 and hopefully with each passing year it will continue to grow and cement itself as a day of joy and celebration in the community.
