Coach Nguyen is one of the few new staff members Arlington High School has on campus this year. He is assisting both the girl’s wrestling team and in the functional skills classroom. Before coming to AHS, he used to be an assistant girls wrestling coach at Collerville for 3 years. One day he hopes to be the head of a girl’s wrestling team and a full-time teacher at the same time.
Coach Nguyen had a few options to teach here at AHS, and he picked functional skills. He said functional skills is the best opportunity for him here because, he would get to learn with the students. He loves his kids and hopes that they will gain knowledge from this class to help them in the near future. He plans to become a teacher in English or Language arts. Before going into coaching, Nguyen worked at Newks eatery. He worked there for 10 years before he decided to change his career. He figured out while working at Newks that coaching was his calling, and he saw that as his best path to be a full-time coach and teacher.
As of now, he is still working on his degree at the University of Memphis. His father-in-law has worked for Arlington schools at AES as the PE teacher for 30+ years; this has inspired Nguyen to teach and coach. He would like everyone to know that “If there’s anybody interested in the girl’s wrestling team, we could always use more people!”
