Solar Eclipse 2024

Solar Eclipse 2024

On Monday, April 8th, 2024, a solar eclipse occurred in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, blocking our view of the sun. There are between 2 and 5 solar eclipses every year. Each one blocks part of the sun’s rays.

Memphis had a partial view of this solar eclipse partially.

Kamryn Johnson, a junior at Arlington High School says, “It was a really cool experience to see a part of the moon in-front of the sun with my classmates that I will remember for years to come.”

In Arlington TN, all the schools in the community took students outside to experience this solar eclipse. At Arlington High School, all the teachers and administrators ushered the students to the football field. Everyone received a pair of solar eclipse glasses to ensure their eyes were not harmed by looking directly at the eclipse.

Whenever the moon started to cover the sun, sounds of excitement came out as all the students watched. Campbell Funk, a junior at Arlington High School says that she is excited for the total solar eclipse that Memphis will be able to see in 2045. The solar eclipse was an amazing experience for all of the community in Arlington, TN, as well as others around the world.
