Quarterback Rod Lucas led the Tigers with an impressive showing through the air, connecting early with Nick Anderson for an opening-drive touchdown. After relying mostly on his legs in last week’s win over Lakeland—when he rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns—Lucas proved he can make plays from the pocket. He finished 17-of-31 passing for 212 yards and four touchdowns.
Despite Cordova starting several drives in Arlington territory, the Tigers’ defense held firm. The Wolves’ first possession began at the Arlington 48-yard line but ended in a quick three-and-out. Cordova’s only score came on a short field after starting in the red zone. The Tigers’ defense has been a difference-maker lately, allowing just 19 total points in their last several games, excluding the loss to Collierville.
After the game, head coach Jesse “Jeb” Jones praised his team’s progress but said there’s still room to grow.
“We’re still a very young team,” Jones said. “Even our seniors don’t have a lot of Friday-night experience because many didn’t play last year. Our goal for the season was to win the region and make the playoffs, and we accomplished that tonight.”
When asked if the Tigers are playoff-ready, Jones was clear:
“Not yet,” he said. “We still have four games left, and there are things we need to fix—self-inflicted penalties, some bad reads, drops on offense, and defensive tackling. We’re getting there, but not quite yet.”
