Before the first bell rings at Arlington High School, a group of students is already gathered—seeking encouragement, community and a quiet moment of faith to start their day.
AHS Student Ministry meets every Friday at 6:20 a.m. in the study hall room, offering students a chance to grow in their faith, begin a new one or simply enjoy Christian fellowship. The club centers on student-led messages and testimonies grounded in the Bible.
“My goal is to strengthen the Christian community here at Arlington,” Club leader Ryne Green, said. “I value having a group of peers who build one another up.”
A typical meeting begins with a welcome, an opening prayer and a message from that week’s speaker. Students frequently volunteer to speak, which leaders say makes the meetings more intentional and relatable.
“It bridges the disconnect that so often divides Christians in the public school system,” club leader Gage Dyer said. “Many different people from different backgrounds can offer their own perspectives and outlooks on Bible topics.” He added that hearing from peers who face similar struggles helps students feel connected, unlike hearing only from adults or pastors.
Testimonies, personal stories of how students came to Christ, are a major part of Student Ministry. These moments often resonate deeply with listeners.
“Hell lost another one, and I am excited to share the wonderful grace of God and bring others to Him through my story throughout the rest of my life,” Senior Jane Watkins said in a meeting earlier this month. “She later told leaders that “so many people” reached out afterward to say they felt encouraged by what she shared.
Stories like Jane’s highlight how Student Ministry impacts everyday students through the leadership of their peers.
Students interested in finding a faith community—or simply exploring one—are invited to join the group every Friday at 6:20 a.m.
