With Christmas approaching, teachers at AHS have been spreading holiday cheer by decorating their classroom doors in a Christmas door decorating contest. This event has added a whole different look to the halls giving the students something cheerful to enjoy during a busy time of the year.
Each door reflects the personality of the teacher and the class behind it. From wrapping paper to wall paper these teachers are going all out.
The students played a major rule in the decorating process too. They helped come up with ideas, cut out decorations, and assemble it together. Many teachers enjoyed the extra help and for the students it was a chance to bring out their creative side outside of academics.
“I had one special student who was willing to help me and she is my seventh period TA. She works with me in here, Audrey Gilmore, and she helped me a lot with it. Mrs. Hensley
This contest has also helped encourage students to get more in the school spirit and participate in more school activities. It has brought a sense of excitement to students especially around a stressful time of year.
“We wanted to do something like this because it’s a fact that the more fun that students have at a school the more that it’s a positive place, a positive vibe, the more they’re going to come to school, the more they’re going to participate.” Mr. Kelly
Students even got the chance to vote on their favorite door, which made the teachers a bit more competitive. All week long students were stopping in the halls and talking about who they think will win. In the end, the theme “Candy Land” in the 200 hallway for functional skills got first place.
In the end, this became more than just a fun holiday activity, this has become a new tradition at AHS for the teachers and students.
