Arlington High School created its very own film appreciation society, the club was recently remade thanks to the help and support of Greyson Snell and his dream to encourage more people to get into and explore the art of film making. He encourages a helpful work environment and promotes good work ethic, wanting the students in the club to thrive.
“I don’t expect to make it perfect since I have so little time, but this can push us ahead a good bit,” Snell said.
60 Second Film competitions are a good way to debut the club. Last year the club originally didn’t have the opportunity to do this but this year the club starts off with a bang, giving a cash prize this year to the winner.
“My main goal is to recruit as many people as possible,” Snell said “and trying to get a bunch of people interested in film.”
and is rather excited to see where the film competition will go off too. This style of film competition is rather popular, the first 60 second film competition originally having been held in 2006 on online forums.
This all wouldn’t be possible if Mrs. Archibald hadn’t stepped up and became our sponsor, she was given the idea to restart the club by Snell and media students. Without their efforts the club would have likely not had any presence at the school.
“My main goal was to still start the club,” Archibald said “But due to unforeseen circumstances we had to push it back.”
Due to how late in the year it was it was more then likely not going to happen unless someone had helped push the club forward and back into the spotlight.
Mrs. Archibald has worked hard trying to get the club back in order and the foundations are set for more competitions.
“Why stop at just 60 seconds,” Snell said. “We can go further.” It is clear he isn’t only prepared for the future of the film society but many more events, due to him graduating next year he has to set the foundations for next year’s Film Appreciation society as well and whatever events they might want to host.
Get your 60 second films in soon, the competition ends April 1st!
