Oscars Night Delivers Surprises and Standout Wins

The 98th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, took place Sunday, March 15, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, the ceremony honored some of the year’s biggest films and performances.

One of the biggest surprises of the night involved “Marty Supreme.” Many expected Timothée Chalamet to win for his performance in the film, and some thought the movie could take home multiple awards. Even though it earned several nominations, “Marty Supreme” did not win any Oscars. That result surprised many viewers, especially since it was A24’s highest-grossing film.

“Sinners” was one of the night’s standout films. Michael B. Jordan was considered a strong contender for best actor for his performance, and the film won four Oscars overall. Those awards included best cinematography, best original screenplay and best original score by Ludwig Göransson. Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw also made history as the first woman to win an Oscar in that category. During the ceremony, Jordan shared his gratitude and encouraged other artists to lead with love and dream big.

The biggest winner of the night was “One Battle After Another,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film won six Oscars, including best picture, best supporting actor, best adapted screenplay, best film editing, achievement in casting and best director. While accepting his award, Anderson spoke about the doubt that often comes with creative work and expressed gratitude for the recognition.

Now that the Oscars are over, many movie fans are already looking ahead to next year. Films such as “The Odyssey” and “Dune: Part Three” are among the movies people are excited to see. Although it is too early to know which films will become awards contenders, the race for next year’s Oscars is already beginning.
