“On April 21 I was at baseball. At the beginning of the game I was playing left field. Then during the third inning the center fielder got taken out of the game for having a bad attitude so I asked if I could play center instead. There was one out in the top of the fourth inning, there was a shallow fly ball hit between me and the second baseman. I didn’t know whether I could get to it, so I didn’t call the ball. I was running full speed for it, and so was the second baseman. My left leg planted in the ground while I was running and his knee hit right under my knee. I was on the ground rolling around screaming not knowing what happened. I see our trainer running out to us, and then I feel a sharp pain in my leg. I reach down and there was a big bump in the middle of my shin. I told the trainer instantly that I had broken my leg and she agreed. I was taken to Lebonheur in an ambulance and was told that I had broken my tibia and fibula. I asked if I had to get surgery and he said no but I stayed overnight and ended up having surgery the next morning. I have a metal road and four screws in my leg. It took a year of recovery but I’m back playing baseball.”
