Misty Freeman has been a college professor at the University of Memphis for 30 years. She has always taught college algebra and elementary calculus. She states, “I really loved math and wanted my math degree. I did not set out to teach, but I loved math so it came naturally to me when an opportunity arose to teach college. I’ve taught it since.” After 30 years of teaching college classes, Mrs. Freeman decided to branch out into a dual enrollment course at Arlington High School this fall. She explains that the decision was an easy one because, “Our department needed someone to teach dual enrollment at Arlington and I live in Arlington so it was a perfect fit.” Mrs. Freeman has been at Arlington for three months and she states, “The major difference is the high schoolers are better prepared and it could be because of the program here. Mrs. Parham is an excellent teacher, she really cares. In college, students are just doing their own thing.” Mrs. Freeman puts emphasis on the fact that, “High schoolers are great students and compared to the class size in college I have to go over basic math principles more in college.” Mrs. Freeman ends with, “I prefer Highschool. This class has spoiled me. This is my first experience but it has been great.”
