Arlington High School teacher/coach Jonathan Loyd is having a very interesting start to the school year, as is every other teacher. Coach Loyd teaches lifetime wellness. He says this year is going good so far, just a lot of changes. He says there was lots of time to prepare for this year, but things change quickly and you have to be flexible. Coach Loyd has been teaching for the last two years at arlington. Covid-19 has changed his life making him more cautious about going out in public. To his knowledge his class is responding well to his new class format. When asked what challenges he faced this year he says having to learn a new process for educating students and keeping it all in line with each class was challenging. Coach Loyd is not a fan of the new setting for school, because he is a in person teacher. Coach Loyd has not had to change what he is going to cover for the year, but he has changed how he handles the gym environment. When asked how Arlington Community Schools has helped support him he says they have given him many resources to use to help keep all the students on the same page.
Coach Loyd’s choose to be a wellness teacher because he says we live in a country that is considered overweight, and he wants to help be the change that helps the mindset of kids. He also says that there is more to life than sitting and playing video games. Coach Loyd’s favorite thing to do outside of school is to golf.
