“I started playing soccer when I was 8 years old, and moved to the US when I was 19 to play at University!” , states Coach Stacie.
Arlington welcomed a new Lady Tigers Soccer coach this season, Stacie Owers. She also works as a special education assistant. She has been coaching for 10 years in many different environments. She has coached for FC Massachusetts, GPS Boston, Christian Brothers University, Collierville Lobos Rush, and Arlington.
“I am a very positive coach”, says Ms. Stacie.
She prefers her girls to figure it out for themselves instead of her constantly talking through the game. She gives guidance when needed. Coach Stacie expects the best from the girls and the players must be respectful on and off the field. She wants to mold players into successful students and student athletes when moving on to study/play in college.
“I am a coach that loves to play good football and that the ball is on the ground, where we play around and break the opposing team down!”, says Coach Stacie.
Set pieces are important, tactical areas of the game are very important, as well. She thinks the girls are learning what is expected of them, and if they do a thing short of that, they know it is not acceptable.
Coach says, “The most positive aspects on the team are how well the girls get along, as well as the coaching staff.”
Everyone on the team has individual goals, as well as team goals. The girls work towards the same target. There are funny players on the team that help with the overall moral of the squad. The players hold themselves accountable when needed. They are honest and open when it comes to taking responsibility.
“The players know what type of game play and strategy we want to play, and trying to keep to that as best as possible is something we do well as a team”, she states.
The major goal for this season is to win, but see improvements from last year, as well from game to game. She wants them improving individually and connecting better as a team! Coach helps achieve these goals by expecting high intensity and effort in practice, as well as for the girls to compete for starting positions.
Coach states she wants to “build from year to year and improve from there!”
The new facilities, as well as coaching staff, and players will be in good shape. There are talented players a joining the team every year to strengthen the squad. Coaches and players are very excited to see what the future holds.
“Go Tigers!”, says Coach Stacie Owers.
