One Arlington High School teacher comes up with new ways to study for the difficult Advanced Placement English 11 exam. AP English 11 Teacher Chris Hudson, created an “AP English Bootcamp” for students to have fun studying and feel more confident when taking the AP exam.

Students come into his class during the fourth quarter to work on ways to study for the AP exam in hopes of passing it. Mr. Hudson wanted to see a change in the scores of his students as well as their feelngs towards studying for it. He has decided to call this period of studying “bootcamp” to give this period of hard work a fun name, as well as a fun theme.

“Bootcamp is a fun and competitive way to make studying for the AP exam more bearable.”

— Chris Hudson

Along with this title, he has come up with fun activities for the students to participate in. They get to have a “cadet of the week” which is where the best student with the best essay of that week gets the title of cadet as well as a candy treat. This gives his students motivation to do better and better on their essays. All of his classes also compete with eachother to see who can win the most points according to their multiple choice practice quizzes.

At the end of each week, Mr. Hudson allows his students to have “Fun Friday” which rewards his kids for a week of hard work. He comes up with an English related game to play that can help them relax from the stressful week behind them. Mr. Hudson hopes that his students get the most they can ut of the bootcamp experience. All of his strategies will help his students acheive a good score on the big day. Although the title “bootcamp” sounds intimidating, there is nothing scary behind it.

Students will take the AP Exams in May 2023.
