This week Arlington Community Schools sends our talented and hardworking cheer teams off to Orlando, FL to compete in the National High School Cheerleading Competition (NHSCC). Every year high school cheer teams all around the nation preform at regionals in their state. If these teams preform good enough, they earn a bid and get invited to the NHSCC. Due to teams from every state attending, this is the biggest and most anticipated cheer competition ever; it takes place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Our very own Arlington High School JV, varsity, and middle school team leave for Orlando, FL on Wednesday February 5th. After their arrival they will check into the hotel and make their way to the Disney parks. This will be an evening of fun for the girls. The following day consists of practice Thursday morning, February 6th, and a team dinner that night. Friday, February 7th, involves practice in the morning, resting, then the first day of competitions. Saturday and Sunday are competition days. Awards will take place on Sunday evening. Monday is a fun day for the cheerleaders to return to the Disney Parks, shop, or explore Orlando, before their return to Memphis on Tuesday.
AHS senior cheerleader, Morgan Abeles says, “It is bittersweet that this is my last Nationals, but I’m looking forward to competing with my girls one last time.” On Tuesday February 4th, the senior cheerleaders signed the underside of the cheer mats. This is one of the last special memories that these seniors will get to experience at their last home practice. All 3 cheer teams, especially our varsity girls are hoping to “Hit 0ch” (which means no deductions) and to bring home a white jacket (that display their championship). Arlington Community Schools is pumped to see how our cheer teams preform.
