On Sunday, April 6, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas the 2025 women’s March Madness Championship took place.

This tournament began at the beginning of March with 64 teams. All D1 college women’s basketball teams compete in a single elimination tournament. Throughout this series of games the number of teams decrease to “Sweet 16”, then “Elite 8”, then the “Final 4”, and finally the championship game. The “Sweet 16” is the regional semifinals and the “Elite 8” are regional finals.

The championship game was the University of Connecticut vs. the University of South Carolina. The final score was 82-59, with UConn taking the win. UConn has won its 12th National Championship title.

This game was especially good for Paige Bueckers, a senior at UConn, who has record breaking stats and has gained an insane amount of popularity from her skills.

AHS senior, Campbell Funk, created a mens and womens March Madness bracket. She won her family’s women bracket and placed 2nd in her mens bracket. Funk says, “I put UCONN winning it all because of the amazing plays, hustle, and popularity they have shown this year.”

UConn was favored to win this year and fortunately for them, they did.
