On Tuesday, April 15th, the Arlington High School Girl’s Flag Football Team earned a win over the Memphis Central High School Warriors. The score ended 20-13.
This is the first year flag football is sanctioned at AHS. Coaches and players have been attempting to create this team for years. While not being allowed a real team, flag football has been a club at AHS for years. This school year, students have been allowed to play flag football against different schools around the Memphis area.
While not all schools have a sanctioned team, the sport has become extremely popular.
Lola Benfield is a freshman on the flag football team and was also a member of the AHS volleyball team. She has loved getting to experience this new sport and make new friendships out of it.
Benfield said, “The first season has gone really well, and I think it has been very successful.”
AHS junior Peyton Smith attended the game on Tuesday. This was her first time ever watching a girl’s flag football game. Smith said, “The game was super exciting to watch and was not what I was expecting to see. I will definitely be watching another game.”
There are many more games and opportunities to go watch the girls make history. Their next game will be Thursday, April 24th, against Power Central Academy High School.
