Teacher of The Year, Janet Pennington

Louis Powell

Arlington High School recently awarded one of their Science Teachers with one of the highest awards that a teacher can receive in Arlington Community Schools, the AHS Teacher of the Year.

Janet Pennington has been a full-time teacher at Arlington for 12 years. She currently teaches Genetics, Forensics, and Anatomy, but she has taught Honors Biology, and Physiology prior to this year.

Before she was a teacher, she was a genetics technician, a cancer researcher, and a stay-at-home mom. As a stay-at-home mom, she served as a PTA president at multiple schools and was the legislative chair on the STATE PTA board.

So what led Mrs. Pennington to become a teacher? The current Honors Biology and Anatomy and Physiology teacher at Arlington High School went on maternity leave. This led Mrs. Pennington to serve in her place as a substitute teacher. It turns out that teaching was the perfect career for Mrs. Pennington and in 2007 she began her teaching career with us at Arlington High School.

I love the faculty and how supportive they are of each other. I love being a part of such an amazing program.

Mrs. Pennington has been a Team Facilitator, a Learning Coach, and has served on several sport booster clubs, and earned the title of master teacher this year.

We are so grateful for her choosing Arlington and we believe that she has clearly earned her title as AHS Teacher of the Year.
