The Grizzlies are slated to get the 8th pick in the upcoming 2019 NBA Draft. With that pick, many mock drafts have the Grizzlies selecting 6’2 guard from Nashville, Tn, Darius Garland. Garland won the Tennessee player of the year in 2018. He currently plays for Vanderbilt as a part of their basketball program where they finished with a record of 9-23. That record could have been much better if Garland had not gone down with a meniscus injury in his left knee early in the season. He has been compared to Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving and fellow member of the 2019 draft class, JaMorant. The Grizzlies drafting Garland would show that the franchise is ready to move in a new direction with Garland and Jaren Jackson Jr. at the helm. This would also most likely mean that fan favorite, Mike Conley, would be traded to allow Garland to reach his full potential. While this is all speculation, we can only hope that the home town team makes a good choice.
Should the Grizzlies take a chance on Darius Garland this draft?
