Ms. Shaley Lynne Chansuolme is not just any 10th grade English teacher. She does not just teach English. She teaches how one student can find their individuality with their own type of literature. When asked to describe the feeling she gets when she helps a student understand and prosper in a subject she said, “There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a student find success. Teenagers are very conscious and seeing them overcome that to reach the potential you always knew they had is the best experience. It makes every heartache worth it.” She truly loves teaching and was inspired by her mother who teaches 4th grade. When asked why she decided to teach at Arlington High School she stated, “Because out of all the schools I knew I would want my child to be a part of that culture. I wanted to be a part of something great!”

“I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me.”

— M. Shaley Chansuolme

She is originally from Jonesboro, Arkansas. She has been teaching since 2013 and previously taught at Nettleton and Marked Tree High School. She loves teaching 9th and 10th grade students because “those students are just starting to become their own people.” She described a day in the life of a teacher as, “Emotional. With just one hour you have one student that is frustrated or upset, but another student has an exciting triumph. You care for your kids so you carry their rewards and burdens. It’s also tiring because you give your all to make sure your kids are taken care of, but you know there’s also something you can improve on. The world is also too quick to judge.” Even if she may get upset with kids who refuse to pay attention or have a hard time learning she understands, “that’s the most important time to reach out. Almost always there’s something bigger going on that they need help with. Those are the situations that are the most rewarding when handled correctly.” This is why she enjoys teaching. She stated, “My relationships with my kids make the job worth it. Each year, each class is different because I will never have the same day or same kid twice. I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me.”

When she was asked how she feels if a student came to her with a personal problem she replied, “There’s nothing more important to me than knowing my kids can come to me and know that one way or the other I’ll help them.” She believes that teaching does not just teach the students, but it also teaches the teacher. Ms. Shaley Lynne Chansuolme is extremely excited to be a part of Arlington High School and we are excited to have her!!
