There’s a new head baseball coach at Arlington, his name is Brad Smith. Coach Brad comes over from Tipton Rosemark Academy where he spent 13 years as the head coach. A seasoned veteran at coaching, he has been coaching for twenty one years now. Starting at Covington High School in 2000 as an assistant coach. When asked about why he decided to come to AHS Coach Brad said, “I was not looking to leave the head coaching position at my previous school but I was not going to turn down the opportunity to be the AHS head coach and lead this traditionally rich baseball program.” Excited about the season, Coach Brad is looking forward to getting back out on the field starting on February fifteenth. A seasoned veteran at teaching as well, Coach Brad is the new Lifetime Wellness teacher. His wife, Mrs. Natalie, as well as their son Brody have also embraced their new home at Arlington High. Active members of the community and of course avid supporters of Tiger baseball, they are ecstatic to begin watching the Tigers play starting in March.
Looking forward to the year, Coach Brad is most excited for the Bartlett and TRA games this year, “the atmosphere could be very intense for those games.” Arlington, like many other schools, is anxious to know wether or not their teams are going to be able to play this spring. This doesn’t mean the Tigers aren’t getting prepared however, “During the off-season, my job is to get my players prepared to be the best version of themselves for the spring season. This includes putting the players through a weight training program, a throwing program, Murfreesboro Challenge competition and pre-season pitching/catching workouts.” Coach Brad is hopeful there will be a season as he doesn’t want to have another senior class miss their season. “My heart hurts for the 2020 senior athletes of spring sports, to have their senior season taken from them the way it was is a tough pill to swallow. Hopefully it will not effect the 2021 spring and spring sports can get back on track.” The Tigers are looking to add a state title this year and Coach Brad says his guys are motivated to work for it. You can watch Coach Brad for first time on March fifteenth at home.
