Outside Class Time Policy Change

Arlington High School just recently came out with a new policy regarding the work load for students. It’s called the “outside class time” policy. This is in reference to students having to do work at home or anywhere else outside of class. Coming back to school on a hybrid schedule is something that both teachers and students aren’t used to. From a student’s perspective, it seems as if we are given more work now in comparison to how things were before COVID. Due to students feeling overwhelmed with the amount of work, AHS has enforced the outside class time policy. This policy limits the amount of work to the time period of the class. Each class is 45 minutes, so the work given on a certain day should be able to be completed by students within 45 minutes.

Mrs. Jennifer Jones is a Dual Enrollment teacher through the University of Memphis. She teaches a college English class to seniors at AHS. Each week, students are given multiple reading assignments. How fast you finish the reading assignments are dependent upon how fast of a reader you are. Mrs. Jones says she tries to give as much class time as possible for people to complete their reading assignments so that they are not homework. Mrs. Jones says she looks at the things she needs to accomplish for each class, and tries to adjust them for the time restraints. All teachers and students are doing their best to adjust to the change in school due to COVID-19.

Dual is its own beast as far as that policy.
