Arlington High School’s Athletic department has been doing its best to keep the student athletes and coaches healthy by following all COVID-19 restrictions. Arlington High school’s Athletic Director, Josh Manthe, gave a little bit of insight on what it’s like to be the athletic director at Arlington High School. He claimed, “I enjoy my role as Athletic Director. It has had some moments of difficulty due to the pandemic but overall it has been a rewarding experience.” When Josh Manthe was asked if COVID-19 has made this year more difficult he replied, “We have had to deal with more restrictions and regulations due to COVID-19. We have had to put limits on fans, as well as team travel and making sure opposing teams and fans are following our policies on campus. Coaches have also had added responsibilities this year as well.” Cross Country and Golf have been the easiest to handle, according to Josh Manthe. “None have been especially difficult because our coaches have been doing a fantastic job staying on top of their teams.”
Winter sports are currently ramping up and according to Manthe, “AHS spring sports will most likely be held.” When asked how he has handled all of the COVID cases within the sports teams he replied, “Coaches make sure all Covid policies are being followed. Coaches also work with administration, as well as school health officials, to make sure that we are catching any student-athletes that show symptoms.” He believes that athletic quarantining may be necessary in order to control the spread.
