Read-Woke Challenge

The Arlington High School Library has come up with a way to make reading fun and challenging!

AHS librarians, Amy Balducci and mrs. Inman, have come together to create a school-wide reading program for all students and teachers, called Read Woke.

Read Woke is a challenge for the teachers and students of AHS to read at least three books that challenges either a social norm, give voice to the voiceless, and seek to challenge the status que. “Read Woke is a feeling, a form of education, and a way to learn about others so you can treat people int respect and dignity, no matter their religion, race or personal orientation.” stated by Amy Balducci.

“It is my hope that students cab come away with a deeper appreciation and/or awareness of people who may different from themselves.” The Read Woke challenge is for anyone who wants to join and is meant to bring a community or people together in the power of reading.

Mrs. Inman and Mrs. Balducci came to the conclusion that this was a good time for the challenge due to the times our school and the society is in. “With all of the social unrest that is currently happening in out society, we felt that having a platform for students and teachers to become informed and aware would be a way for AHS to take a stand against the injustices happening in our society”. The signups for the challenge have already closed but as of right now there are 32 students and 15 teachers involved. Although the signups can open if you email Mrs. Inman directly.

After a book is read a review must be written  about the book and after all three books are completed a T-shirt is rewarded!
